Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – ‘Avengers’ is poised to close its decade-old run with a big bang. The latest film in the franchise, ‘Avengers: Endgame’ is already dominating the box office worldwide and is expected to rake in even bigger numbers for its final bow.
‘Endgame’ set a new record by scoring a cumulative $169 million on Wednesday at the international box office, which includes the $107.5 million it generated in the Middle Kingdom and debuts in 24 other global markets, Deadline reported. The openings far eclipse the numbers achieved by ‘Avengers: Infinity War’.
In China, Marvel also made its record-breaking first with $153 million on opening day. This upcoming weekend is expected to bring in more than $300 million to the film’s early earnings.
Also in China, the superhero ensemble film set a new opening day record for IMAX with $13.8 million from 608 local cinemas, which is 82 percent more than what ‘Infinity War’ generated.
The film is already expected to cross the $1 billion worldwide ticket sales in less than week of its release. ‘Endgame’ has a projected global launch estimated at $850 to $900 million or more, according to The Hollywood Reporter. With these numbers, the final ‘Avengers’ movie is expected to score an all-time best of $270 to $300 million in North America cinemas alone.
The only challenge to ‘Avengers: Endgame’ reaching its goals is the film’s three-hour length, which is expected to reduce showtimes in theaters. Several theaters so far has come up with adjustments to meet with the demand, such as adding more showtimes and screens.
