Los Angeles, CA, United States (4E) – Disney has given the go signal for a limited series based on Marvel’s top archer Hawkeye. Sources confirmed that the show will be aired on Disney’s upcoming streaming service and with Jeremy Renner reprising his role.
Sources told Variety that Disney is developing a series about Hawkeye and Renner is attached to star in the titular role. Although little is known about the project as of now, it is said that the story will center on Clint Barton and how he will pass the torch to his successor, Kate Bishop.
In the Marvel Comics, Bishop takes up the Hawkeye mantle after Barton retires. She’s also part of a team called the Young Avengers.
Renner has been a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe since 2011, starting with a minor cameo appearance in ‘Thor’. He went on to reprise the role in ‘Avengers’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’ and ‘Captain America: Civil War’. While he was missing in ‘Avengers: Infinity War’, Hawkeye will have a crucial role in the upcoming ‘Avengers: Endgame’, which will premiere on April 26.
The ‘Hawkeye’ series is one of the many Marvel-centered projects planned for Disney+ and part of an initiative by Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige to have limited series to showcase the stories of fan-favorite Marvel characters who do not have their own film franchise.
Disney+ previously announced that they are working on a miniseries for Loki and Scarlet Witch, portrayed by Tom Hiddleston and Elizabeth Olsen respectively, Deadline reported.
Disney’s paid subscription streaming service is expected to be up and running in late 2019.
