Salt Lake City, UT, United States (4E) – Utah Senator Mitt Romney says a GOP congressman made “a courageous statement” for calling for President Donald Trump’s impeachment over the weekend.
Romney, on CNN, said Rep. Justin Amash, a Michigan Republican, said he “respects” Amash but doesn’t think impeachment is the right path to take with Trump.
Romney, who lost the 2012 presidential election to Barack Obama, said on the Sunday morning program that special counsel Robert Mueller’s report into Russian interference in the 2016 campaign falls short of impeachment.
“…I believe that to make a case for obstruction of justice, you just don’t have the elements that are evidenced in this document,” Romney told Jake Tapper.
Amash said was Trump’s actions were incorrectly portrayed by Attorney General William Barr, however.
“(The president) engaged in specific actions and a pattern of behavior that meet the threshold for impeachment,” Amash tweeted.
Trump fired back on twitter over Amash’s tweets from the previous day.
“Never a fan of @justinamash, a total lightweight who opposes me and some of our great Republican ideas and policies just for the sake of getting his name out there through controversy,” Trump wrote.
